Safety situation in New Caledonia

  1. Last updated on

All non-essential travel to New Caledonia is discouraged.

We continue to advise you to reconsider your need to travel to New Caledonia.

In the case of essential travel, we recommend that you exercise great caution in Nouméa and the western coastal areas between Koné and Nouméa and reconsider your presence in parts of the country, including the îles Loyauté and îles de Pins and the western coastal areas on Grand Terre, including some main roads.

Political tensions and civil unrest could escalate in the short term. Demonstrations and protests can turn violent very quickly. Isolated safety incidents, including arson, can occur throughout the territory. Some essential services are still affected.

The police and security services are still very present in the country.

Avoid demonstrations and public gatherings. Keep an eye on the local media and follow the advice of local authorities.
